Kid terms, and collapse of part of house

Funny how sometimes children's creative terms for things make more sense than the common terms. For instance, when Eli wants me to put his kangaroo costume right-side-out, he asks me to put it out-side-out. Makes perfect sense.

This morning there was a tremendous crash and our furniture started shaking. I thought maybe a huge load of snow slid down the roof (forgot we had a flat roof!), but in fact, our entire pool house (attached to the house) simply collapsed. The roof was apparently partly rotted -- more than we knew -- from years of the previous owners not maintaining it and rain getting in. Seems the weight of the snow was simply too much. I am so thankful that no children were outside in the way, and that it didn't crash into the rest of the house. Basically, the roof crashed into the pool, and then the side walls fell outward. One wall is leaning into the neighbour's fence and broke a couple of boards off it. It COULD have smashed it over and smashed his nice storage shed over too. That's a good thing that it didn't.


The far wall with 3 huge windows in it is still upright and intact. Those windows could perhaps be reused. That's good.


The other wall falling didn't break the grape arbour or knock over the hazelnut tree. That's good, too!


We are not completely sure how much damage may have been done to the playroom structure. One of the walls that fell over was part of the wall that is part of the playroom, yet that part didn't collapse. It did bend out a few inches leaving a gap for nice fresh air to blow in!


Also there is a little tiny separation between the wall between the collapsed room and the roof. We are getting a builder friend to come over when he can to see what's happening there. This is what you see when you're in the playroom.
