Eli is five, and has some of that stereotypical red-headed temperament (or is that 'temper'?) He is a very very cuddly boy who loves to make his mum happy with gifts of pretty flowers or grasses, cute drawings, and especially hugs, kisses, and compliments!
He also appears to be the only one of our sons who is interested in all the work going on on our construction. He will spend hours watching the builders (all friends, or friends of friends) and banging nails into pieces of wood. He will grab any available hammer and hammer almost anything, though. The other day he took a 10 lb sledgehammer to pound some gravel. In bare feet. Which ended in a poor little big toe that, well, exploded open from the bottom. (It's healed up perfectly, so no permanent harm done.) Probably no more than 6 weeks ago he did a similar thing to another toe. Different hammer, different results - lost nail. (He's also the only person in our whole family to break a limb - and he's broken two - both arms, different years.) Sigh.....
Not to give the wrong impression. He's actually very well coordinated, for example, quite talented at dribbling a basketball right into the ground.

And here he is taking advantage of the lovely smooth and safer-than-a-road driving surface! I believe he did get a nail in his tire, though.
Eli is really wishing for a bigger bike, as this one, just given him last Christmas, is already too small! - or at least too small to keep up with his brothers. He prefers to ride Lukas's bike, even though it's so big he falls over whenever he stops! Time for us to start looking for one in the right size!
Eli is really good at reading - we haven't really tried to teach him yet but a year ago he was working with Lukas on reading. He starts kindergarten next month. He's a bright boy - and not just in hair colour.
Charis would like to contribute this Eli-ism. The other day Eli was sitting on the couch watching TV, holding a large mixing bowl when he announced "Mom, someday I am going to eat cereal out of this!"
Aaahh, the heady dreams of youth!!!

Ow! Ow! Ow! Sledgehammers and toes do NOT go well together!
My kids (especially the boys) would be right in there watching or "helping" with the construction, too. Last summer our neighbors put in a new mound septic system. For about a week our kids were kept busy watching the machinery digging the hole, moving dirt, etc. :)

Yeah, Mel, that's what I would have thought ours would be like. I don't get why our other boys (and dd) haven't been that interested. I think, sigh, that they are too computerized.
